  1. Q: What is the Avemco Safety Rewards Program?
A: Analysis of NTSB records and our claims confirms that pilot error is the primary reason for aircraft accidents. To address this Avemco launched the Safety Rewards Program initiative in 2003 to take an active role in reducing the frequency and severity of accidents in the general aviation community. In addition to educating pilots, the program provides annual premium credits to Avemco policyholders for participating in specialized training programs related to the type of flying pilots like you do. It is a two-part program that rewards pilots for participating in ground and flight training programs.

You become eligible for a 5% annual premium credit when you (and all other pilots named on your insurance policy) complete any FAASTeam WINGS Knowledge course, which include many of the WINGS online courses, King Schools Practical Risk Management courses, FAA-sponsored seminars, AOPA Air Safety Foundation courses and other qualifying courses. Information on the FAASTeam WINGS program is available at www.faasafety.gov.* And you can become eligible for an additional 5% credit when you participate in Avemco-recognized flight training.

  2. Q: What additional training qualifies as "Avemco-recognized flight training"?
A: Training relevant to the type of aircraft and operations you fly that goes beyond the FAA minimums, including most FAASTeam WINGS qualified training, such as:
    • Real-world training scenarios with your CFI
    • FAASTeam WINGS Flight Program
    • Crosswind takeoff and landing training
    • Tail wheel training
    • Aerobatic training
    • A mountain flying course
  3. Q: I understand there are some initial flight training programs that qualify. What are they and how to I qualify?
A: Avemco accepts enrollment of student pilots in any manufacturer-approved Part 141 flight school as qualification for the recognized flight training annual premium credit. And, upon completion of that same flight training, you would be eligible for the credit. For example, Cessna currently has Its Cessna Pilot Center program, which qualifies for the credit.

  5. Q: Is there a minimum amount of in-flight training with a CFI that will qualify as "Avemco-recognized recurrency training"?
A: We require at least 2 hours of in-flight training with your CFI relevant to the type of aircraft and operations you normally fly.

  6. Q: Why does Avemco require the FAASTeam Knowledge course for the risk management portion of the Safety Rewards credit?
A: Since the overarching goal of this program is to ultimately reduce the number of general aviation aircraft accidents over time we felt it was important that our requirements be based on a careful and qualified selection of courses. With the continuing improvements to the WINGS program by the FAASTeam we believe that completion of these courses can have a positive impact on general aviation safety.

  7. Q: How do I apply for the Safety Rewards premium credits?
A: Simply complete any FAASTeam WINGS course and either send us your completion information through the FAASTeam website at www.faasafety.gov* to avemco@ave.com or send us your certificate of completion or King Practical Risk Management Course completion code (* any one course during the year earns you a 5% annual premium credit). And/or complete Avemco-recognized and accepted flight training for a 5% annual premium credit, and provide us with a completion certificate issued by the training agency, or provide us with copies of your logbook entries. In any case, you will immediately receive the premium credit from Avemco as soon as you notify us that you have completed the requirements for one of the 5% premium credits (any FAASTeam WINGS course credit or Avemco-recognized flight training), or complete them both for a 10% annual premium credit. You will not need to wait for your next renewal.

If you have completed one or both parts of the program click here for the application to apply for your credits.

  9. Q: I was pleased to learn that getting a new certificate or an IFR rating qualified for the whole 10% annual premium credit. Why did Avemco decide to add this to the program?
A: Since you are required to take a written test and a flight examination to obtain a certificate or an IFR we decided that they met the intent of the program to provide risk management and flight training.

  10. Q: Can flying clubs earn the 5% and 10% premium discount for participating in the Avemco Safety Rewards Program?
A: While we encourage all pilots to continuously learn about risk management and practice to keep their pilot motor skills sharp the premium credits for the Avemco Safety Rewards Program do not apply to flying clubs. Our current premium levels and ratings on flying clubs take into account that clubs already track and have in place a program of pilot education and recurrency training in addition to the FAA flight review for their members. Therefore we cannot offer additional premium credits to flying clubs.
